On the 3rd February, we started this project with one vision: To get space on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) agenda! And since then, we work hard everyday to realise this.
Our team consists of four friends and highly motivated students. We are all studying “Global Project and Change Management” at the Windesheim University in Zwolle. Each of us comes from a different background and has already conducted multiple projects in different countries. Now we are all working together to create value where it is needed. Space has to little recognition in the global agendas and our pupose is it to shift that.
Our university already acknowledged our initiative and recognised the SDG 18. But, our plan is to convince the UN to incorperate a new SDG: SDG 18 – Life in Space. Currently, there are already 17 SDGs including SDG 14 – Life under water and SDG 15 – Life on Land. We ask ourselves, why is there no SDG focussing on Life in Space?
Why are we doing it?
- After conducting desk research, we found out how valuable and important space as a whole is to human development. This will only increase in the future. However, while researching we noticed how vulnerable space currently is and how little focus nations and the UN give it.
- With all the opportunities in technology, research, and economy opportunites we see it as necessary that more in depth discussions about all topics are facilitated and that there is a global agreement on these topics and issues.
In order to accomplish this goal we need support, we need contacts, we need someone to open the doors for us so that we can contact the right people with the right knowledge and contacts. Therefore, our plan is currently to gather as many contacts as possible. This way we can recieve professional opinions on our initiative and gather more knowledge on how to tackle the problem and what other important topics to include in the SDG 18.
Planning:
- Reaching out and contacting (continuous task)
- Finding support
- Creating network
- Working together to get space on the UN SDG agenda
We will continue to post our progress. Therefore, make sure to subscribe to not miss any new updates.
